Troop 22 Newsletter: April 2026 Edition

  • Mar 26
  • 2 min read

April is almost here! We had a great time camping and fishing last weekend—always good to get outside together. This month shifts into skill-building mode with Backpacking 101/201 and preparation for our May Court of Honor. Scouts should come ready to learn, participate, and be prepared.

NOTE: Be sure to check the Troop calendar here & your email the week of each troop meeting to track any changes.

Check out the Bandelier campout & Fenton Lake fishing photos here.

TOP THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS MONTH:

Wed 4/1 - NO Troop meeting: Spring break hiatus.

Sat 4/8 - PLC + Backpacking 101 (Water Canyon) & 201 (Taos Gorge) trip planning: If you plan to attend the two separate trips the weekend of 4/17 - 4/19, please attend this meeting; registered & trained adult leaders needed for trip support!

Sun 4/12 - Service/conservation hours opportunity (Beehive, White Rock) - Scouts needing these hours, please look for an email from Mr. Holtkamp for further details.

Wed 4/15 - Rank advancement + Backpacking 101/201 Shakedown: Scouts must be prepared for a backpack shakedown for the backpacking trips.

Fri 4/17- Sun 4/19 - Backpacking 101/201: There will be two outings that weekend, one for Backpacking 101 for those scouts that need basic backpacking skills in Water Canyon + a more advanced Backpacking 201 for scouts ready to tackle the next level in Taos Gorge. This is an excellent opportunity for all scouts needing requirement 6 for the Cooking merit badge!

Wed 4/22 - Troop meeting: Skill-based equipment (knives, saws & axes) + final 5/6 Court of Honor planning for scouts & adults

Wed 4/29 - Troop meeting: Final rank advancement + partial merit badge completion prior to 5/6 Court of Honor ceremony

NOTES:

  • We Need Your Support!

To keep our campouts and events running smoothly, we rely on all of our families to pitch in. When just a few carry the weight, it’s tough to keep the momentum going. Please take a moment to reach out to a troop leader so we can plan ahead and keep offering these awesome experiences for our Scouts.

  • Reminder: Always CC Another Adult in Scout Communications

As a reminder, whenever a Scout and a leader communicate via email, it is essential to always CC another registered adult or a parent/guardian. This practice is a core part of Scouting’s Youth Protection guidelines.

  • Report YPT Violations: call or text 1-844-SCOUTS1

  • BSA Medical forms are found here - youth & adult participants need forms A & B for overnights less than 72 hours + part C (signed by doctor) if more than 72 hours.
